“Di dalam Al-Quran, hadis-hadis nabi Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam dan pandangan para sahabat banyak menceritakan perkara yang berkaitan dengan ilmu pengetahuan dan kelebihan-kelebihannya. Antaranya ialah ;
1. Ilmu yang dimiliki dan diamalkan akan berkekalan sedangkan harta tidak kekal dan akan susut apabila digunakan. Sabda Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam yang bermaksud: "Apabila mati anak Adam maka terputuslah amalan-amalannya kecuali tiga perkara iaitu sedekah jariah, ilmu yang dimanfaatkan dan anak soleh yang mendoakannya". ( Muttafaqun alaih ).
2. Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala telah memilih orang-orang berilmu beserta para malaikat menjadi saksi akan keesaan-Nya. Firman Allah Subnahu Wata'ala di dalam surah Ali ‘Imran ayat ke 18 yang bermaksud;
"Allah menerangkan bahawasanya tiada tuhan yang berhak disembah melainkan Dia, yang sentiasa mentadbir seluruh alam dengan keadilan dan malaikat-malaikat serta orang-orang yang berilmu, (mengakui dan menegaskan juga demikian); tiada tuhan yang berhak disembah melainkan Dia yang mahaberkuasa lagi kuasa lagi maha bijaksana".

3. Ilmu merupakan pembuka jalan kepada orang-orang yang mempelajarinya untuk mendapatkan syurga Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala. Rasulullah Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam telah bersabda dalam sebuah hadis yang bermaksud;
"Barangsiapa yang mencari jalan untuk menuntut ilmu, maka Allah akan mempermudahkan jalan untuknya ke syurga". (Riwayat Muslim)

4. Ilmu merupakan cahaya yang menyuluh jalan kepada hamba-hambaNya yang mencari petunjuk dan hidayah Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala. Begitu juga orang-orang berilmu yang diumpamakan oleh Nabi Sallallahu ‘Alaihi Wasallam seumpama bulan terang yang mengambang di tengah malam.
Demikianlah sebahagian nas-nas sahih yang menjelaskan tentang fadhilat dan kelebihan ilmu dan juga orang-orang yang memiliki ilmu. “
